Recently signed to HF Music, Mobolaji Odojukan, popularly known as BOJ, is an artiste you want to call the poster boy of Nigeria’s Alternative music. At 22, he has already defiled the notion that alternative music is not for everybody, as he shares a fan base with most of his Pop contemporaries. His music has crossed the boundaries of a genre that is supposedly appealing to a handful of people in America and some European countries.
BOJ has played in several countries including America, Canada, Ghana and London, where he was born. Without doubt, his appetite for travel and the imbibition of experiences in the process, has undoubtedly influenced his music further. He already sounds like the finished article, but he would never admit it.
Despite the obvious parallels between his sound and the music he listened to while growing up, BOJ finds it difficult to mention any particular artiste as an influence. This may be undisputed, as none has actually come forth to compare or relate him to another from the past or present. His music and voice is just synonymous to him.
In 2013, BOJ was nominated twice as a featured artiste in the Best Alternative Song category at the Headies for “Omo Pastor” by Ajebutter 22 and “Feel Alright” by Show Dem Camp. He bagged a solo nomination in the same category the following year (2014), to win the award for his song, “BOTM” (BOJ On The Microphone).
BOJ has performed at some of the biggest events in Nigeria and outside the shores including Rhythm Unplugged, The Sahara End of Year Party, The Lagos Countdown and many Schools. He has also worked with several artistes like Olamide, Naeto C, Davido, Wande Coal , Ajebutter 22, Simi, Falz, Vanessa Mdee and most recently, bigLITTLE – his label mate.
